Iran sitting volleyball team claims Paralympics championship

Iranian national sitting volleyball team defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Paralympic Games final.

The Persians beat their arch rival 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15) at the Riocentro - Pavilion 6 to win their sixth Paralympics medal.

But before battle between the old foes resumed, both teams and the entire venue took a moment of silence to remember Iranian cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, who died on Saturday following a crash in the cycling road race.

The victory marked Irans first Paralympic gold since Beijing 2008, when Iran last beat Bosnia and Herzegovina in the final.

Earlier in the day, the Egyptian mens team overcame its Brazilian opponent 3-2 (28-26, 29-31, 19-25, 25-22, 15-13) and won the bronze medal.
